Rest & Restoration

If you’ve been feeling overly stressed, fried or frazzled, you could be near burn out and in need of one or more types of rest, or a long overdue holiday. Take some time to see which of the 7 types of rest resonate with and what lifestyle changes you could make and how Healy could assist.

1. Physical rest

Getting a quality nights sleep, a gentle massage, doing restorative yoga or a taking a nap can be deeply relaxing. Any way your body identifies with relaxing muscles and reducing bodily tension is beneficial. This could also take the form of stretching or a walk in nature.

2. Mental rest

We need our brains for problem solving, processing information and making decisions. It also needs some down time especially if it is overthinking or repeating the same thoughts. Meditating, journalling, making lists, mindfulness, taking short breaks and engaging in hobbies that allow the mind to wander can help reduce mental fatigue. Ensuring a good nights sleep to rest, sort and repair is essential when engaging in high brain activities so your focus and creativity is maximised.

3. Emotional rest

Sometimes we need extra space and time to process our emotions, particularly if there has been a big or unexpected life change. Allowing ourselves time to feel, express, process and get support when needed is essential in the emotional healing journey. This can feel deeply traumatic, but it will eventually lead to greater self-awareness, emotional intelligence, deeper relationships and some new level of acceptance and peace. It’s OK to say No when you feel tired.

Healy: Emotions (Soul Cycle), Being, Release and Relax (Gold), Emotional Wellbeing, Feel Good Syst (Mental Balance), Bach Flowers, Emotional Balance (Personal Coaching), Coherence (Bioenergetic Support), Heart Chakra (Chakras), 7 (Local Stimulation).

4. Sensory rest

In a world of over stimulation with bright, unnatural lighting, loud noises, social media scrolling, excess screen and EMF exposure our sensors are overloaded. Even the supermarkets have identified the need for one hour a week of dimmed lights so the over-stimulated can get their groceries in a more calming environment. Things you can do… unplug from the matrix – reduce screen time by turning them off, change the cold blue lighting to warmer lights indoors and on screens and dimming lights, using noise cancelling headphones and getting outside in nature.

Incorporating Rest into your Life

  1. Start small and build up, whether this is a walk, meditation or Healy use.
  2. Schedule YOU time and prioritise yourself. Set boundaries to honour your time.
  3. Experiment with what feels right for you, ie the first type of yoga or studio may not be the best fit or your walks are too long or short.
  4. Once you have self awareness of your self-care needs – what you are missing or have too much of in your life – be intentional about making small changes and check in with yourself if this change ticks the box and adjust accordingly.
  5. Keep the intentions and benefits of the lifestyle changes in mind to motivate yourself – journalling may help. As things improve it’s easy to say “I’m better now” and go back to your old ways.
  6. Combine rest types – nap with a healy, do a walking mediation.
